For my parents, St Kabir Public School was the natural choice for my schooling due to its special focus on the promotion of Sikh values within the broader context of time honoured Indian customs and traditions. Besides, the saintly demeanour of our Founder Principal, Mr JP Singh Sir and the maternal affection and concern that students received from Ma’am Singh, as we all fondly called her, was more than sufficient to convince my parents that there was no better place for their child to grow up than St Kabir, whom I now refer to as my Alma Mater with the greatest pride and pleasure.
It was indeed a privilege to gain knowledge, imbibe values and be groomed under the watchful care and supervision of my teachers at St Kabir and I would not hesitate to add that my desire to grow up and participate in nation building was also born during my years at St Kabir. My choosing a career in politics is clearly an outcome of that desire.
To this day, whenever I think of doing something important, the memory of Mr. JP Singh Sir or Ma’am Singh, telling me to be good and to be of service to others, comes up in the mind and I feel happy that St Kabir shaped my heart and mind with the powerful message by Bhagat Kabir Ji – Avval Allah Noor Upaya, Kudrat Ke Sab Bande and I close my message to St Kabir by recalling the opening lines of our School Song – “To praise my Alma Mater KABIR, I stand here today, I stand straight, upright, tall and strong, because of Kabir today…
Wishing my beloved Alma Mater great success and well-being forever into the future…
