The Storytelling & Reading Programme
In every book and every story, a world unfolds. At St Kabir Public School, reading and storytelling together shape how students learn to think, feel, and express. Our programme is built on a simple belief: stories are not only read but also heard, told, explored, and lived.
Through this integrated approach, students develop strong reading habits alongside the ability to listen deeply, speak confidently, and engage with ideas.
Students engage with a carefully curated blend of print and digital reading, supported by platforms such as GetLitt and purposefully gathered print collections by Funky Rainbow. Alongside reading, oral storytelling forms a core part of the programme—helping students enter stories through voice, imagination, and shared experience.
Across the year, students participate in structured cycles that combine storytelling, reading, discussion, and reflection. This integrated approach builds fluency, deepens comprehension, and nurtures a sustained culture of reading, telling, and sharing stories.
Reading evolves into a space for reflection and dialogue. Students engage with a curated selection of fiction and non-fiction through a structured programme that integrates reading, storytelling, and social-emotional learning.
Through stories, students explore identity, relationships, and ethical questions while developing the ability to interpret perspectives, analyse choices, and express their thinking clearly. Storytelling, discussion, and reflective journaling create a classroom environment where ideas are examined thoughtfully and multiple viewpoints are valued.
An in-class reading programme built on carefully selected texts, with space for student interpretation and expression. Students explore contemporary Indian and international writing across genres, matched to their reading levels.
Reading is approached as a thinking process. Through guided exercises, students develop comprehension, interpretation, and critical engagement with texts.
A dedicated 15-minute daily reading period fosters consistency, focus, and quiet immersion in books of choice.
