At St Kabir, storytelling is not just an art form; it’s a conscious pedagogical tool that we introduced in 2018 to create a storytelling culture in our school. We take pride in being one of the very few schools in the country to have a dedicated ‘Storytelling Lead’ who designs and oversees the implementation of our storytelling programme.
Through weekly storytelling periods for grades I to VII, our language teachers captivate young minds with stories drawn from folklore, legends, and myths. These sessions develop the habit of listening with focus, trigger imagination, and nurture a sense of wonder and inquiry about the world.
Extension activities and story-based projects focus on skill-building, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These activities enrich students’ language skills and enhance their overall communication abilities.
Stories are not limited to language classes. Teachers of Maths, Science, Social Studies, and General Knowledge also tell stories extensively to explain concepts in textbooks, making learning more engaging and relatable.
With the National Education Policy (NEP) emphasizing the importance of storytelling as a pedagogical tool, our teachers receive continuous training and support to better integrate stories into the curriculum. This ensures that our students not only excel academically but also develop into well-rounded individuals with a deep appreciation for storytelling and its power to transform learning.
Through our storytelling programme, we aim to ignite a lifelong love for stories, nurturing not just scholars but also storytellers who will shape the future with their words and wisdom.
