Every age is known for its scientific discoveries and inventions that impact human life. However today’s scientific advancements are going to make phenomenal impact on us. Progress made in the field of Artificial Intelligence or AI is one such example.
Artificial Intelligence in simple terms means that machines and computers are learning, thinking and doing what human intelligence does.
How often do you ask Siri / Alexa or Cortana a question? Each time you do so, you are using Artificial Intelligence. Now, let me ask you a vital question. Why has there been a surge in the field of AI?
The answer to that is that science is trying to create a super Intelligence that can predict your needs by learning from the information it gathers and from the way you use it. It makes decisions, solves problems, recognizes speech and makes judgments.
In fact, a Boeing 777 pilot spends approximately seven minutes manually piloting the plane. He places the plane on “auto pilot mode” to cover most of the distance.
However, there are several questions that come to one’s mind. What if AI by some chance acquires smarter intelligence that can control human beings? Also, if AI creates automated jobs, will it replace human skill and labour? Or will AI help create career paths which some of us may want to pursue?
Few AI Start-ups are already using this technology for providing solutions to mankind. Some examples are Zipline , Everlaw and Naturali.
To conclude I would like to say, that robots can some day gain enough intelligence to challenge the might of man. Though it might happen in the future, we need not lose our sleep over it today.
