In the pages of a book, a world unfolds, and at St Kabir Public School, we are committed to guiding our students through the transformative journey of reading.
Reading is not just a priority; it is the cornerstone of our academic philosophy. We understand that developing strong reading skills is essential for our students’ success, both in their academic pursuits and in their future lives.
To foster a love for reading, we have curated specialized reading programmes for different grade levels:
Students use a digital reading platform called GetLitt, complemented by print books curated by Funky Rainbow. This platform offers a wide range of engaging and age-appropriate books to cultivate the habit of reading.
Students read on a platform called Lightsail, which provides a personalized reading experience based on their Lexile scores. This platform helps students improve their reading skills and oral fluency through interactive features and targeted assessments.
Students have access to Qomix, a non-fiction graphic storytelling app. Qomix aims to make reading more engaging and accessible, especially for older students who are developing a deeper understanding of complex topics.
Through these programmes, we aim to instil a lifelong love for reading in our students, helping them become thoughtful and articulate individuals prepared to face the challenges of the future.
For Grades I to VII, we have ‘Being Booksy’, an in-class reading programme with print books along with Get Litt, a digital reading platform. Each term, students delve into a carefully curated list of books by contemporary Indian and international authors, exploring genres ranging from simple animal tales to historic fiction, mystery, and humour, tailored to their grade and reading level.
Our teachers design exercises that effectively address various sub-skills and learning outcomes related to reading, ensuring that students not only enjoy reading but also enhance their comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Every day, students participate in Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) for 15 minutes, fostering a daily reading habit that extends beyond the classroom.
We have created class libraries to ensure that there is always a book for company, encouraging students to explore new genres and authors.
This marquee event in our school calendar is conceptualized as a platform to connect young readers with books and authors, fostering a love for literature and storytelling.
In recent years, our students have excelled at the GetLitt Reading Olympiad, helping St Kabir Public School win the Best Reading School award consistently. This achievement reflects our commitment to promoting a culture of reading and literacy among our students.
